It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

We're talking about the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, along with an additional six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed over three years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, those for the peak baggers, are all that remain for a team that has won it all.

The fact it required up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, regaining their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the pitchers that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It's challenging for their hitters to hold a record if not provided the opportunity.

In the end, the result of Australia conceding 330 was leader Alyssa Healy getting an opportunity to produce her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her nation couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has witnessed all through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup happened three months after her first appearance and seven global championships have followed from 10 tries across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the run of success.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy stated recently.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the final and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

If this recent magnificent innings topped that previous effort remains open for discussion.

Many contend the case for the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the test that comes when facing a record target and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've observed me in practice sessions, it was a disappointing period because it seemed I lacked timing at all," said Healy.

"However when you take the field, your competitive instincts take over and you simply focus on the match."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her key asset - and a priceless quality in succeeding iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, fallen to the young fast bowler in every game, but here that only provided Healy's spark.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and from that point Healy was in motion.

"A chance to take the field and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself in that regard, sort of got me going," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she attacked short-pitched balls, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

When she was removed her side required another 66 at a run-a-ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is new territory so I'm happy we have the confidence to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it another time but, should it happen, we know we can succeed."

That comment will be the last rival teams at this championship should hear.

During the last week a sense they will succeed regardless of circumstances has only strengthened - this victory following win against Pakistan by 107 run margin despite struggling at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a match against traditional opponents England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final place may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they exited last year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - an encounter Healy missed because of torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at a significant event.

So great is her will, she later said she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

However although she afterwards confessed those physical issues have delayed thoughts of retirement, this championship is anticipated as her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a global event as leader.

Success in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
